2018-2019 PreK INFORMATION

May 4, 2018

Dear PreK Families and Trumansburg Community,

We are writing to inform you that we have continued to research and look into the applicable laws and regulations around qualifying students for enrollment in Pre-K for the 18-19 school year.  We have learned this week that because our Pre-K program is grant funded we are bound by the statutory requirement that students must be district residents and be four years of age on or before December 1, 2018.  There is no federal income guideline provision as TCSD is not a Headstart Program.  Therefore, all qualifying families will be eligible on a random lottery basis.  We will draw enrollment on Monday, May 14th as the deadline to apply is Friday, May 11th at 4:00 PM.  We will notify all families no later than May 16th.

Just to clarify, financial paperwork is no longer required or part of the eligibility criteria.  Children of staff members are not eligible for enrollment unless they are district residents.  Additionally, children that will be 5 years of age on or before December 1, of 2018 are only eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.  We apologize for any confusion and distress this has caused our families.

Respectfully,
Kimberly Bell, Superintendent of Schools
Jeanie Wiggins, Elementary School Principal
Trumansburg Central School District
