We are the S in STEAM. Students involved in the science program are presented with instruction that directs them toward an appreciation of science as a process of human enterprise, carried on by human beings for the benefit of mankind. To gain this appreciation, young people must come to understand science as an active, dynamic process, seeking explanations and understandings through the study of cause and effect relationships. In science, knowledge comes from scientific investigations that arise from cumulative and endless observations that result in the development of concepts and theories. The courses of the science program offer the opportunity for the use of these skills in learning and investigation developed in the K-8 program as well as further expansion of concepts developed throughout 9-12. For graduation, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 3 courses in the science curriculum, one of which must be Living Environment. For graduation students are required to pass one New York State Regents exam in Science. Ultimately, our hope is to cultivate a curiosity and desire to continue to learn in the world of science beyond Tburg.
