Athletics Mission Statement

The Trumansburg Central School Athletic Department is devoted to promoting a healthy and safe environment that provides challenging opportunities for all students through quality sports programs.  The life lessons that our students learn through participation in athletic programs are important elements of the educational process and provide unique opportunities to further enhance the virtues we aspire to in schooling our children.  Teamwork, dedication, respect, integrity, cooperation, and sportsmanship are words that embody our athletic programs.  The Athletic Department is pleased to work with student-athletes, families, schools, and the community to provide opportunities for student development from participation in organized sports.

In order to help each athlete have a positive experience in the athletic program, a hierarchy is established for each level of participation (modified, junior varsity and varsity) in our program.  The coach should always strive for a good balance between learning, participation and winning the contest.  In ranked priority, the following is desired:

  • Modified Level:  Participating in an enjoyable and meaningful experience, getting playing time, developing athletic skills and learning how to be competitive. (7th and 8th Graders, unless no JV team is available, then 9th graders are allowed to participate)

  • Junior Varsity Level: Participating in an enjoyable and meaningful experience, further skill development, playing time and striving to be more competitive. fun (typically 9th and 10th graders, if your son/daughter is in 7th or 8th grade and would like to try out for the JV team, then they would need to contact Mr. Hodge to discuss the steps that need to be taken)

  • Varsity Level:  Participating in an enjoyable and meaningful experience, refining their skill development, winning competitions and playing time. (typically 9th-12th graders, if your son/daughter is in 7th or 8th grade and would like to try out for the varsity team, then they would need to contact Mr. Hodge to discuss the steps that need to be taken)
