Announcement

March 29, 2022

Dear Community,

With great excitement, I write to share that I am honoring our current Middle School Principal, Megan Conaway’s, request to transfer to the high school to fulfill the role of High School Principal effective July 1, 2022. Ms. Conaway began her leadership with us just four years ago and has had a tremendous impact on our school community. She collaboratively expanded the World Language Department to include 7th & 8th grade French & Spanish. Ms. Conaway supported the addition of both Design and Drawing for Production and Studio Art, allowing 8th-grade students access to high school credit while in middle school. She has contributed to the development of the STEAM program and advocated for full-time Art and Chorus teachers in the middle school.

Ms. Conaway is known for putting student interests and outcomes first and strives to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders. While doing all this, she had daily oversight and coordination details to accommodate for a building project throughout the pandemic. She masterfully worked with her team to create a schedule to accommodate 5th/6th-grade students in person five days per week while supporting 7th/8th students in a hybrid schedule. She has used her leadership and expertise to shift the middle school grading practices with a targeted implementation planned for 2022-2023. And while one would think that was plenty, she recognized the importance of implementing new school-wide celebrations, including, Day of Service - School-Wide Community Projects (planned for this school year); Walk/Bike to School Day; Activity days; 8th-grade parade; Vision/Creation of Mosaic with a local artist; Social Justice Fun Run Fundraiser; Science Fair; and a mentor program.  She also was a leader in the implementation of the RULER SEL Curriculum as well as advocating and problem solving Culturally Responsive Practices in the Middle School.

Ms. Conaway is a passionate leader that previously supported social emotional needs and behaviors at Lansing High School.  She cares deeply for our entire school community, reflected in her work ethic and respect for all. She will be a welcomed asset in our high school, where she already has connections with families, students, and personnel. We are fortunate to leverage her leadership and experience at the high school level.

Mr. Koeng will continue as interim High School Principal through June 30, 2022. We will be advertising for a Middle School Principal and welcome those candidates that applied for the high school position to remain in the candidacy pool should they hold that interest. Next week another communication will be sent with details for stakeholder involvement for our middle school leader search.

Sincerely,
Kimberly
