Hello Trumansburg Community,
I am writing to provide you with a COVID-19 District update. We have been notified that an ES, MS, and HS scholar and ES teacher have been added to our COVID-19 positive list. Our nurses and building administrators have been working closely with the Department of Health for contact tracing to ensure all scholars and district employees' safety. The contact tracing process aims to identify all students and staff/faculty members who may have been exposed and determine whether they need to quarantine. I have attached for your review informational sheets that explain the difference between quarantine (
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-npMjAW4wIYBhriNTewgYoOQsvsIgnuS/view?usp=sharing) and isolation (
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-no_dbDJBC2hl7GbsIaJZl1UVbuqjjFJ/view?usp=sharing). Due to our community's size and interconnectivity, one positive case can impact as many as nine faculty members and 34 or more students in terms of quarantine. However, in some cases, due to our recent move to remote learning, a positive case has not led to school community members' quarantine.
We are dealing with an unprecedented event, one that evolves daily. We continue to see the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases grow across the state, as such, we must continue to work together to promote the safety and health of all members of our community.
Lastly, thank you for supporting our teachers and scholars this week with our abrupt transition to 100% remote learning. We can't change our circumstances, but we can and did adjust our efforts to provide new learning opportunities. Our collective ownership in the process of educating will only lend to increased student outcomes.
Our sincerest well wishes for a quick and full recovery to those who have been directly impacted.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Bell

Good Afternoon,
I wanted to provide a bit more clarification regarding the impact of COVID-19 on our district. We currently have 1 COVID positive scholar in our high school. Additionally, in our high school we have ten faculty and staff members and 54 scholars in precautionary quarantine as directed by the DOH. We have one COVID positive scholar in our elementary school, two COVID positive faculty and staff members, and one staff member and 16 scholars in quarantine. In our middle school we currently have one COVID positive scholar and two other scholars in quarantine. From our department of transportation we have one staff member in quarantine.
We continue to work closely with our community and the DOH in monitoring the local impact. Please keep those affected in your thoughts. We are thinking of you all and wish you improved health in the days that come.
Respectfully,
Kimberly Bell

Dear Trumansburg Community:
I regret to inform you that we have learned of yet another positive COVID-19 case at our District. This case is a scholar in the high school. We are currently working with the Tompkins County Department of Health to notify all individuals that have had exposure. The quarantine period for those impacted, including teachers, extends to November 18, 2020. I anticipate we will learn of additional cases as the week progresses. To safeguard our school community and prevent additional exposure, we will maintain 100% remote instruction through Friday, November 20, 2020. Keep in mind that Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24, were scheduled as remote learning days. This will not change. Therefore, the first day back for in person instruction will be Monday, November 30.
It is important to reiterate in these most difficult of circumstances; we will still win the battle to educate our scholars. We will need to work differently and harder; however, I am confident we can achieve our work toward this common goal despite these temporary obstacles.
Please look for additional information from building principals and/or your child's teacher(s) in the coming days.
I wish your family and loved ones good health and well-being. Please keep those that have been impacted in your thoughts. Have a joyous Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Kimberly Bell

Good evening! Please listen for an important update from our School Superintendent, Kimberly Bell. We have received word this evening, Friday November 6 that we have a positive COVID-19 case amongst our Elementary School personnel. We anticipate there may be at least one other positive case but are awaiting test results. The Department of Health will contact those individuals that may have had possible exposure. Acting out of an exorbitant amount of precaution, we will move to 100% remote instruction Pre-K-Grade 12 effective Monday, November 9, 2020- through Friday, November 13, 2020.
For those programs that take place off campus, such as PTECH or CTE and other BOCES programs, families will receive a separate communication this weekend from your building principal with details.
Thank you for your understanding. We wish for all your families safety and good health.
Kind regards,
Kimberly Bell

Dear Trumansburg Families:
I am writing to make you aware of a bus accident that occurred at approximately 7:15 AM this morning on Route 79. At the time of the incident, there were six students on the bus and one waiting to enter. The bus was rear-ended while stopped. As a precautionary measure, two students and staff members were transported to the hospital for further evaluation. All families of students on the bus were notified. Our counselors at each building are available to support students and teachers.
Please know, student safety is our priority, as with all incidents we will investigate the situation. If you have further questions or concerns regarding this incident, please reach out to your respective building leader and/or counseling staff.
Respectfully,
Kimberly Bell
