May 10, 2022 Dear Staff, Students, and Community, I am writing with much enthusiasm to announce the next Principal of Russell I. Doig Middle School, Ms. Jean Amodeo, beginning July 1, 2022. Ms. Amodeo was selected to lead our work together based on her accomplished 20 years in education, including nine as a school administrator with experience at elementary and secondary levels. Other experiences/roles include classroom teacher, technology mentor, department chair, building-level data coordinator, and master scheduler. She has led educators to achieve demonstrable increases in achievement across all cohorts, focusing on data analysis, standards-based instruction, targeted professional development, and robust intervention programs. She is passionate about creating a trusting and collaborative atmosphere in which a growth mindset is celebrated, and varying viewpoints and experiences are acknowledged and honored. In early July, we will host an opportunity for our community to meet and welcome Ms. Amodeo to our district. We look forward to the leadership and outcomes she will bring forth for our community. Respectfully, Kimberly Bell

March 27, 2022 Dear Community, I am writing today to inform you that our elementary school, as of this a.m., has twenty-one (21) staff members that are either COVID-19 positive or home ill with symptoms. We cannot safely provide classroom coverage with this volume of absent teachers. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to close the elementary school on Monday, March 28. On Tuesday, March 29, we will provide elementary students with (at home) asynchronous instruction. That means that our teams of teachers will support each other and provide work for each grade level available for your child via a learning platform. Children may access the instruction on Tuesday at a time convenient for them and you as a family. Therefore, there will be no instruction for elementary school students on Monday. Tuesday, students will access their learning platform (at home) for instruction. We anticipate resuming in-person instruction on Wednesday, March 30, for elementary school children. Our middle school and high school will be open as planned and ready to receive students in person on Monday and Tuesday. I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience; it is still chilling and somewhat unreal to realize the continued impact of the pandemic. I appreciate your partnership as we work together to continue efforts in providing education continuity, remote learning, and student support services. As previously stated last week, please continue to test regularly if you have had known exposure or are experiencing symptoms. To reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19, we continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our local Department of Health. We are staying in close communication with local and state health officials to ensure we are taking the appropriate steps under the current circumstances, including: • Enhanced infection control precautions, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), increasing hand sanitizer availability, and more frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces. • Availability of testing for students for the virus causing COVID-19 based on current protocols and availability of tests. • Availability of masks in each central office and health office. We encourage you to review the CDC website for information about COVID-19, including its symptoms, how it spreads, and actions you can take to protect your health: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. Sincerely, Kimberly Kimberly Bell TCSD Superintendent of Schools

COVID-19 Transmission: Notification Letter to TCSD Community March 24, 2022 Dear Community, I am writing to inform you that we have identified 32 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff and students since Tuesday, March 22, 2022. This represent 6 staff and 1 student at the ES; 0 staff and 9 students at the MS; and 11 students and 5 staff at the HS. Recall, on Monday, March 21, 2022 I had reported 21 separate other new cases. These numbers do not include the number of staff and students absent presenting with symptoms but not yet confirmed positive. The safety of our students and staff is of the highest priority. We believe the common thread to our positive cases stems from involvement in our recent High School Musical, Emma. We are encouraging the community to test regularly if you have had known exposure to any of the musical members and to wear a mask if you believe you came into contact with anyone that is positive. To reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19, we continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our local Department of Health. Additionally, we are staying in close communication with local and state health officials to ensure we are taking the appropriate steps under the current circumstances, including: • Enhanced infection control precautions, encouraged/supported wearing of masks, increased hand sanitizer availability, and more frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces. • Availability of testing for students that become symptomatic (once at school) for the virus causing COVID-19. • Availability of masks in all main offices and health offices. We encourage you to review the CDC website for information about COVID-19, including its symptoms, how it spreads, and actions you can take to protect your health: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. All of us at Trumansburg CSD understand that this is a difficult situation and may cause alarm or distress. Additional information about coping with stress can be found on the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019ncov/daily-life-coping/managing-stress-anxiety.html. We will continue to provide you with regular updates about the situation. We will promptly notify you if we should need to make a shift to remote instruction due to insufficient staff coverage. Sincerely, Kimberly Bell TCSD Superintendent of Schools

March 1, 2022 Good Evening, As previously communicated, Governor Kathy Hochul has lifted the mask mandate in schools effective tomorrow, March 2nd. While the removal of the state's mask mandate has been anticipated based on several fundamental changes by the CDC and new local TCDOH community metrics, we recognize this will be a transition period for all of us. Beginning tomorrow, Trumansburg CSD will make masks optional, a personal/family choice inside, outside, and on the bus. It is very important that we work together to ensure every student and staff member is treated with kindness and respect for their personal choice to wear or not wear a mask. Our staff will reinforce the message with our student body that we are a courteous and respectful school community. This evening, NYS Department of Health released additional school guidance. The document continues many protocols and mitigation measures already in place. We fully recognize the importance of community health; therefore, we will continue to offer PCR testing via school nurses for children who become symptomatic during the school day. Physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and the availability of free masks and rapid tests will remain in place. The administrative team will be meeting tomorrow a.m. to review the guidance and share any updates to our protocols in the coming days. We will continue to monitor and collaborate with regional educational leadership, TCDOH, NYSDOH, and NYS Department of Education for any changes to COVID-19 school protocols. Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation. Respectfully, Kimberly Bell Superintendent TCSD
