December 14, 2020 Dear Trumansburg Community, I am writing to inform you that although our District has attempted to adapt to the conditions caused by COVID-19, we are currently struggling to adequately provide classroom coverage in far too many of our classrooms. Our commitment to teachers and students to keep them in similar pods is no longer possible as we have multiple adults covering any one classroom daily. Acting out of an abundance of caution to ensure students, faculty, and staff's health and safety, we will move to 100% remote learning for grades PreK-12 starting Tuesday, December 15, 2020 and continue through December 22, 2020. Holiday recess is Wednesday, December 23 through January 2, 2021. After the holiday, student on-line instruction will resume January 4, 2021 with a tentative plan to return to in-person instruction Monday, January 11, 2021. As an administrative team, we believe that moving to 100% remote instruction for a planned period will provide a higher level of instruction versus the constant disruption of unplanned absences that fall outside of our control. Shifting the District to remote instruction the week following the December break will ensure a safe and healthy return to learning after the recess. Please anticipate follow up communication from Building Leaders and individual Teachers. School Lunch will continue to be provided through December 22, 2020 and resume again after the New Year. A direct communication from the School Lunch Department will follow later today. Please continue to refer to our website for all past and future communication at www.tburgschools.org. These are difficult times for our community, thank you for your flexibility, support, and commitment to the success of our scholars. I hope this holiday season you have time to enjoy your traditions safely with family. Respectfully, Kimberly Bell Superintendent TCSD

December 11, 2020 Dear Trumansburg Community, I am writing to provide you with a COVID-19 update. As a continuation of the impact from the positive Middle School (MS) COVID-19 case that we received notification of late Wednesday, December 9, 2020, we will continue 100% remote instruction for just the 8th-grade cohort, including 8th-grade faculty and staff, through Tuesday, December 22, 2020. That means the 8th-grade cohort, including faculty and staff, will not return to in person instruction until January 4, 2021. The Department of Health has a complete list of individuals that need to be contacted due to exposure. The contact tracing process may be delayed due to the vast number of cases in the general region of Tompkins County (not just our District). Students, faculty, and staff in grades 5-7 should plan to return to their regular in person schedules beginning the week of Monday, December 14, 2020, unless instructed otherwise by our building leader, Megan Conaway. We will continue to provide you with updates as expediently as possible. Our sincerest well wishes for a quick and full recovery to those who have been directly impacted. Respectfully, Kimberly Bell Superintendent TCSD

MESSAGE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL FAMILIES: Thank you for your support and patience as we continue to navigate COVID safety protocols. As indicated in this evening's District communication, all 7th & 8th grade students will continue with remote learning for tomorrow, Friday, December 11, 2020 (Fridays are asynchronous learning as usual). After careful consideration, we determined that ONLY 7th & 8th grade students will remain remote at this time. All 5th & 6th grade students (with the exception of the Morse/Stearns pod) will return to in-person learning for tomorrow, Friday, December 11, 2020.

December 10, 2020 Good Evening Trumansburg Community, I am writing to provide you with a COVID-19 update. We were notified this past hour that a member of our Middle School (MS) faculty has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, we will shift to 100% remote instruction for all MS students grade 5-8, including 5-8 faculty and staff, for at least tomorrow, December 10, 2020. Our nurse, building administrator and other personnel will work in cooperation with the Department of Health on contact tracing. The contact tracing process aims to identify all students and staff/faculty members who may have been exposed and determine whether they need to quarantine. We will be providing you with another update late tomorrow afternoon. Our sincerest well wishes for a quick and full recovery to those who have been directly impacted. December 7, 2020 Dear Trumansburg Community, I am writing to provide you with an update on items that began late last week and carried over into the weekend. Some of you are already aware that there was a positive COVID-19 case in the MS on Monday, November 30th. We have been working with the Tompkins County Department of Health Department (DOH) as they continue to lead the contact tracing work. After considering all students and staff's safety, I decided that the pod of students in the exposed MS room would move to remote learning for today, December 7th . Also, all staff members who had direct contact (for more than 10 minutes) with this group will be /working remotely. That represents five teachers, one school monitor, and twelve students in anticipated quarantine. This afternoon, I was able to confirm with the DOH that remote learning should be extended through December 14, 2020, that means this pod and associated teachers will return to in-person instruction on December 15, 2020. It is critical to highlight that as of 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, the DOH had not successfully reached all families or faculty/staff to inform to quarantine. I was also informed that Schuyler County would not have opportunity to notify two of the faculty members until today as they are closed over the weekend. Acting out of an abundance of caution, the District notified all parties that they "may" need to quarantine and should expect a call from DOH. This is a public health issue; therefore, a mandate to quarantine can only come from DOH. The DOH is overextended, handling the volumes of calls and investigating potential contacts for the entire region. Additionally, late Thursday afternoon, we were notified that BOCES had multiple persons impacted by exposure, which led to a BOCES wide move to remote learning. The exposure placed one of our school monitors as well as five students in quarantine. Please keep all of these individuals in your thoughts. Schools continue to be a low spread community; our mitigation efforts will promote everyone's safety. Have a fantastic Monday! Respectfully, Kimberly Bell Superintendent TCSD

November 12, 2020 Hello Trumansburg Community, I am writing to provide you with a COVID-19 District update. We have been notified that an ES, MS, and HS scholar and ES teacher have been added to our COVID-19 positive list. Our nurses and building administrators have been working closely with the Department of Health for contact tracing to ensure all scholars and district employees' safety. The contact tracing process aims to identify all students and staff/faculty members who may have been exposed and determine whether they need to quarantine. I have attached for your review informational sheets that explain the difference between quarantine (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-npMjAW4wIYBhriNTewgYoOQsvsIgnuS/view?usp=sharing) and isolation (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-no_dbDJBC2hl7GbsIaJZl1UVbuqjjFJ/view?usp=sharing). Due to our community's size and interconnectivity, one positive case can impact as many as nine faculty members and 34 or more students in terms of quarantine. However, in some cases, due to our recent move to remote learning, a positive case has not led to school community members' quarantine. We are dealing with an unprecedented event, one that evolves daily. We continue to see the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases grow across the state, as such, we must continue to work together to promote the safety and health of all members of our community. Lastly, thank you for supporting our teachers and scholars this week with our abrupt transition to 100% remote learning. We can't change our circumstances, but we can and did adjust our efforts to provide new learning opportunities. Our collective ownership in the process of educating will only lend to increased student outcomes. Our sincerest well wishes for a quick and full recovery to those who have been directly impacted. Sincerely, Kimberly Bell Superintendent of Schools

Good Afternoon, I wanted to provide a bit more clarification regarding the impact of COVID-19 on our district. We currently have 1 COVID positive scholar in our high school. Additionally, in our high school we have ten faculty and staff members and 54 scholars in precautionary quarantine as directed by the DOH. We have one COVID positive scholar in our elementary school, two COVID positive faculty and staff members, and one staff member and 16 scholars in quarantine. In our middle school we currently have one COVID positive scholar and two other scholars in quarantine. From our department of transportation we have one staff member in quarantine. We continue to work closely with our community and the DOH in monitoring the local impact. Please keep those affected in your thoughts. We are thinking of you all and wish you improved health in the days that come. Respectfully, Kimberly Bell Superintendent

November 7, 2020 Dear Trumansburg Community: I regret to inform you that we have learned of yet another positive COVID-19 case at our District. This case is a scholar in the high school. We are currently working with the Tompkins County Department of Health to notify all individuals that have had exposure. The quarantine period for those impacted, including teachers, extends to November 18, 2020. I anticipate we will learn of additional cases as the week progresses. To safeguard our school community and prevent additional exposure, we will maintain 100% remote instruction through Friday, November 20, 2020. Keep in mind that Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24, were scheduled as remote learning days. This will not change. Therefore, the first day back for in person instruction will be Monday, November 30. It is important to reiterate in these most difficult of circumstances; we will still win the battle to educate our scholars. We will need to work differently and harder; however, I am confident we can achieve our work toward this common goal despite these temporary obstacles. Please look for additional information from building principals and/or your child's teacher(s) in the coming days. I wish your family and loved ones good health and well-being. Please keep those that have been impacted in your thoughts. Have a joyous Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Kimberly Bell Superintendent of Schools
